Hello and happy Talented Tuesday! I am so glad you are here because I am so excited to introduce you to an amazing artist named Judit Just. Like most artists I come across, I discovered Judit on Instagram.
Her gorgeous and vibrant art beamed through all the other posts and, as I browsed through her feed, I was captivated by all the textures and colors. I had never seen anything like the art she creates! Have you?
Other than her posts on Instagram and her Etsy Shop, I could not find very much about Judit's personal life so here's the bit I did find on this talented artist....
Judit is deaf in one ear and wears glasses. Therefore, she says that touch is her strongest sense. In fact, Judit describes how she “almost sees with her hands.”
She studied fashion design, sculpture and textile art, where she specialized in weaving and embroidery. She grew up surrounded by textiles and actually learned weaving craftsmanship through her Mother when she was little.
Judit was planning to become a designer, but left fashion school because she was more interested in creating the fabric the designers use. This was where she mastered all types of textile art techniques like learning how to do various things like dyeing fabric, embroidery techniques and weaving.
Judit was raised in Barcelona Spain. After meeting her husband in Spain, Samuel Clemons (an American English teacher), Judit and Samuel took a day trip to visit Asheville, North Carolina. Upon finding a supportive creative community there, Judit and Samuel decided to take the leap of faith (from Spain) and move to the fun-loving city of Asheville nestled into the Blue Ridge Mountains. This is where Judit really started to develop her textile brand.
Judit has taken her traditional skillset and applied it to the plethora of materials available in the United States. She adores living in the River Arts District, has adopted a dog and tends a vegetable garden that boasts a big strawberry patch. Judit also has a fabulous art studio where she creates her masterpieces. You can see wonderful pictures of this space on her Instagram page.
She says her main mission is to avoid superficiality and always embrace a DIY technique that encourages discovery. She avoids the easy way and enjoys finding the mysterious in everyday things.
Her greatest passion is reworking old techniques and updating them for the 21st century in a way that looks new to people’s eyes. She has never lost her hometown ethic and in the land of opportunity, Judit says she feels more free than ever to let this ethic grow.
