Hello fellow creatives and artists! I have a super delicious treat for you today. Meet Valerie Carpender, an amazing acrylic and oil painter. I just came across her account on Instagram this week and just about died when I saw all her work! She is not only gorgeous, she creates the most exquisite and lovely paintings!
On one of her posts on Instagram, Valerie says that creating is her happy place and that no matter where she is in the world or how busy life gets, she always makes time to create.
I love this! Yes Valerie, yes! It is so vitally important, as artists, that we make time to do what we were created to do. Life can get busy for all of us. It certainly does for me. But setting aside the time to create is important for our health and sanity. When life gets really stressful or busy, we must not push art to the side. Even if you think you don't have time, break out your brushes, paints, colored pencils or whatever it is you like to create with anyway and enter your happy place again. You deserve it.
From all over the world, people commission Valerie to create original works of art. An example of this was when the Hennepin Healthcare Clinic in downtown Minneapolis reached out to her to create some artwork for their facility! It took Valerie four months to create 15 meaningful, inspiring and original paintings for this hospital. This stunning horse painting is one of the pieces.
If you are ever in Minneapolis head to the 1st floor main corridor and have a look. You will be amazed! The mediums she used to create these particular pieces were acrylic and metallic paint and iron oxide.
In addition to horses Valerie also paints abstracts, like the one shown here. After working on highly detailed paintings like the horses, Valerie says she likes to paint abstracts because it helps her unwind. She says they are a fun change of pace for her because they let her be free and loose with her brushes and tools.
This abstract painting is called "Resilience." To create this work, Valerie used acrylics, tiny glass beads and lots of texture. Oh I wish I could touch it. The original has sold but she will have prints of her work for sale on her new website soon.
And if you are not already smitten by her work, along with birthing glorious paintings, Valerie also loves to create hand-crafted jewelry. Check out her jewelry line @vshopjewelry.
One of my favorites is the Triple Chevron Chain Harness paired with the Little Prick chain choker. Click here to check it out.
You just have to see the bead and wire wrapped teardrop amazonite earrings too. Click here to see these beauties.
You can browse and purchase her jewelry like the pyrite and silver dagger drop earrings on her website at www.valcarpender.com.
Her website is getting a beautiful tune up so check back on April 11 to see it! In the meantime, drop by her Instagram page and say hello.
And come back next week for another Talented Tuesday artist. Until then, go out and paint the world with your color, light and love and I will do the same.
